What is VirtueMart? VirtueMart is an open source eCommerce solution designed as an extension of the Mambo or CMS. It’s written in PHP and requires the MySQL database environment for storage.
Here is step by step instruction on how to install VirtueMart:
Step 1. Download the latest stable version of VirtueMart from here.
You will see test versions at the top of the page. These may include new features and bug fixes and some new bugs. So we don’t recommend you to use these versions. Use them for testing only!
Step 2. Unzip the downloaded file com_virtuemart.3.x.y.extract_first.zip
It will extract three more zip-files:
- com_virtuemart.3.x.y.zip – which holds the main VirtueMart component.
- com_virtuemart.3.x.y_ext_aio.zip – which holds all modules and plugins essential for VirtueMart.
- com_tcpdf_1.0.0.zip – which holds the TCPDF plugin essential for VirtueMart.
Step 3. Install the component com_virtuemart.3.x.y.zip via the Joomla Extension manager.
Step 4. Install the component com_virtuemart.3.x.y_ext_aio.zip (aio = all-in-one) via the Joomla Extension manager.
Step 5. Install the component com_tcpdf_1.0.0.zip via the Joomla Extension manager. This will install the necessary plugin to print your documents like invoices and delivery notes.
Some help on how to use the Joomla installer:
Joomla 2.5.: http://docs.joomla.org/Help25:Extensions_Extension_Manager_Install
Joomla 3.x.: https://docs.joomla.org/Help34:Extensions_Extension_Manager_Install
The procedure to update VirtueMart 3 to a newer version is the same as for the installation described above.
You should always update all three components, the main component with installing com_virtuemart.3.x.y.zip and the modules and plugins with com_virtuemart.3.x.y_ext_aio.zip as well as the com_tcpdf.1.0.0.zip (you might skip the last, if the version number is not changed).
